GreeNest at Energieapéro beider Basel Conference

On November 6, 2024, GreeNest attended the Energieapéro beider Basel Conference titled Building with a Future: Focus on Wood, Clay, and Straw, which took place at FHNW Campus Muttenz, Switzerland.

The event dedicated to exploring the growing trend of using natural building materials such as wood, earth, and straw. With Switzerland witnessing a surge in innovative projects, the event examined the challenges and opportunities of sustainable construction and the availability of renewable resources. The event was specifically aimed at professionals in architecture, planning, and building technology, providing a platform to discuss innovative developments in renewable materials and their practical applications in construction. 185 people applied for this event.

The program opened with a welcome address by Roland Wagner from the Office for Environmental Protection and Energy of Basel-Landschaft. The first lecture, delivered by Mathias Stocker of Boltshauser Architekten AG, presented the H1 wooden high-rise project in Regensdorf. Hansueli Schmid (Lignum) and Patrick Krecl (Atelier Krecl) followed with a discussion on the availability of renewable materials, covering wood as a construction resource, trade dynamics, and sustainability certification. Finally, Claudio Menn discussed upcoming energy law amendments in Basel-Landschaft, offering a perspective on policy support for sustainable building.

Our colleague Julian Mönig from FHNW’s INEB provided insights into circular timber-earth construction, focusing on innovative slab designs in the GreeNest research project.

The event concluded with a Q&A session and networking, serving as an invaluable opportunity for industry professionals to engage, learn, and exchange ideas about sustainable construction practices.

We are thankful to INEB's team that GreeNest was able to connect with so many experts and innovators in the field of sustainable construction and build a greener future for us all.
