Introducing Municipality of Western Lesvos

The Community of Stypsi is one of the 36th communities of the Municipality of Western Lesvos. The Municipality of Western Lesvos is a newly established Municipality, which was created by the diversion of the Municipality of Lesvos into two Municipalities and started on 1st September 2019.

The population of the Municipality is about 58.000 inhabitants. The municipality consists of thirty-six villages. Seven of them (Kalloni, Eressos, Polichnitos, Agia Paraskevi, Molyvos, Petra and Mandamados) are small agricultural centres with higher populations. Kalloni is the capital of the Municipality. The economically active population is mainly concerned with agriculture and services. Tourism is the main industry of some villages like Petra, Eressos and Molyvos.

Role in the project

CoS, as the owner of the Greek demonstration site for the GreeNest project, plays a key role in supporting the planning, procurement, and supervision of construction works. Their primary focus is showcasing innovative construction methodologies for Zero-Emission Buildings (ZeB), with a particular emphasis on utilizing local value chains. Additionally, CoS is responsible for organizing and hosting one training event and workshop to further promote sustainable building practices and ensure knowledge dissemination.
