Introducing Lignum
Lignum (LIG) is the umbrella organization of the Swiss wood value chain. Founded in the year 1930 to promote and further develop the use of the local resource wood. The key to resource-efficient and low-emission construction using renewable building materials lies in meeting all fundamental requirements in the construction industry. For wood, there have been longstanding technical and regulatory barriers, particularly in fire safety, that need to be addressed.
Over years of collaboration with research and development partners, Lignum has worked intensively to develop relevant tests, standards, and state-of-the-art documents. Through knowledge transfer to architects, engineers, and specialized planners, as well as advocacy at the national level, Lignum actively promotes the adoption of these environmentally and economically attractive alternatives in the construction and finishing sectors.
Role in the project
Lignum supports the GreeNest project by facilitating the collection and dissemination of LCA information and offers an established digital infrastructure for open data through Lignum Data. This platform is built upon the common data dictionaries of the European wood federation CEI-Bois. Moreover, Lignum plays an integral role as an active member of the BuildingSMART International Product Steering Committee, contributing to the ongoing development of the BuildingSMART Data Dictionary (BsDD).
